Multisync

A trademark of NEC, the term MultiSync is widely used (without the capitalization) to describe a monitor that adjusts its scanning rate to accommodate signals from different classes of video graphics boards.

Frequency Spectrum

A frequency spectrum refers to a range of frequencies. For example, cable television commonly occupies the 5-MHz to 550-MHz frequency spectrum.

Multiplexer

This is a piece of hardware that allows one item to take the place of several. An example would be using a multiplexer to allow 10 computers to attach where only one could before.

IEEE

Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers. This nonprofit U.S. engineering organization develops, defines, and reviews standards within the electronics and computer science industries.

DAO

Data Access Objects. In Microsoft parlance, Data Access Objects is a programming interface for use in applications that require access to databases. It is being abandoned in favor of ADO.

Portable

If something is portable it can be easily moved from one type of computer to another. The verb "to port" indicates the moving itself.

WML

Wireless Markup Language is the primary content format for devices that implement the WAP (Wireless Application Protocol) specification based on XML, such as mobile phones.

CCITT A-Law

This is a CCITT-ratified audio encoding and compression technique supported by Windows 95 and Web phones. Among other implementations, A-law was originally intended as a phone-communications standard.

Visual Basic

A high-level programming language from Microsoft that's graphically oriented and relatively easy to learn, Visual Basic can be used to create everything from simple database applications to commercial software packages.
